District Cabinet Meeting - Friday, August 6, 2017 - Coliseum Bar & Grill, 3:15PM

CABINET MEETING MINUTES

Call to order at 3:15 p.m. by DG Jodi Burmester

Pledge led by 1st VDG John Elvekrog

Cabinet Installation was conducted by PID Mark Hintzmann. We are all a big family and in each of our roles in Lions he likened it to the family.

IPDG Eric Holthaus was recognized for his service with a plaque. IPDG Eric presented DG Jodi Burmester with the DG Banner. IPDG Eric thanked the entire Cabinet for the support shown him during his year as DG.

2017-2018 Goals:

A Video of the Global Service Projects was shown. We now have 5 focus areas with Diabetes Awareness added. Pediatric Cancer is part of the youth area.

LCI Forward-vision for all levels of the Association to improve service.

Cabinet wrote postcards to their future self - what will you accomplish this Lion year. DG Jodi Burmester will mail them March 1, 2018.

The DG Team consists of DG Jodi Burmester covering Regions 5 and 6, 1st VDG John Elvekrog covering Regions 3 and 4, and 2nd VDG Conrad Dreyer covering Regions 1 and 2. They will be making official DG Team visits to clubs in each of their own areas. Official visits will be in their Governor's shirts rather than the red coats.

Executive Team, consisting of the DG, 1st VDG, 2nd VDG, GMT Coordinator, GLT Coordinator, MyLCI Coordinator and IPDG, meets once a month. Issues in the District needing attention are addressed then. The email for the team is execteam@lions27d1.org.

Through Constant Contact all officers of the clubs will be receiving 2 emails a month. The 1st week of the month the GMT/GLT will be sending information out. The 2-3rd week of the month words of inspiration will come from DG Jodi.

General club news still will be at pr@lions27d1.org.

DG Jodi shared that the Cabinet Meetings will be Sunday afternoon, starting at 3:15 and completing with a meal at 5. The location will be at the Coliseum Bar in Madison. The January Cabinet Meeting will be a webinar. At the October Cabinet Meeting there will be training on how to do the webinar. It is suggested that there possibly be viewing parties. Several cabinet members could get together and do the webinar meeting together.

Changes in trainings - Zone Chair and Officer Training have become hands on trainings.

District Convention - no Friday night start. The Convention will start Saturday at 9 a.m. and go until noon on Sunday. Saturday night will be hospitality. Sunday morning will be the Cabinet Meeting with an all Convention breakfast. Sunday at 9 will be a retention workshop. Convention information will be out in October.

Approval of the minutes from January 22, 2017. No notes from the March or May meeting are available. Motion to approve by PDG Dick Schwedrsky, second by Lion Mike Keller. Motion carried.

Treasurer report by Lion Bill Severson. Motion to accept the proposed budget made by WLF President John Dickson and second by Lion Tara Vraniak. Motion carried. Lion Bill reminded us that the budget is simply a template. The budget is not balanced - running a deficit. Monies are in the reserves. District Convention goal is to break even, not to make money.

Audit report - Lion Bill met with PDG John Jenson, and books are fine. Motion to approve the audit findings made by PDG Rob Sherman, and second by PDG Dick Schwedrsky. Motion carried.

Most reports were submitted ahead of time and are available on the website.

Committee reports will be 3 minutes and the Sergeant At Arms will be timing.

Standing Committee Reports:

ADP - not available.

Centennial - DG Jodi/Lion Tammy-57 of 58 clubs have reported service. 89,267 service hours have been performed with 556,739 people served. 245 people per member benefit in this District. Diabetes has been added as a global service action. Eyeglass Challenge goal of collecting 100,000 pairs of eyeglass was smashed with over 295,000 pairs collected. 27-D1 won the Challenge with 65,505 pairs of glasses or 30 pairs per member. Money won will be used for a party at the District Convention in March.

GMT - Lion Tara informed us that the District is down 14 members. We will be working on retention. Lion Aaron Walsh will be sending out dropped member surveys. He will also work on getting dropped members to rejoin. October will be a Recruiting Workshop-Urban areas.

GLT - Lion Mike-Officer Trainings in April were well received. 43 of 58 clubs attended. Zone Chair Training was held earlier in the day. We have one member applying for the Emerging Lions Leadership Institute, 3 members applying for Advanced Lions Leadership Institute, and one member applying for the Faculty Development Institute. Several members will be receiving degrees from Lions University at the USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum.

WLF - PDG Neil Winchell has resigned as he is moving out of the District. At the Convention we will be voting to fill the remaining 2 years of his term. DG Jodi will be appointing someone to finish this year. WLF President John Dickson says this District does wonderful things for the Foundation. 2 weeks left of the camping season.

Lions Pride - PDG Rollie Manthe - July 14th was the Annual Meeting. PDG Dewey Carl estate gave 1 million dollars to fund 66 campers permanently. It takes $15,000 to permanently sponsor a camper.

LEBW - PDG Rick Daluge - retired from LEBW but will be a Board Member. He presented a Knight of Sight to IPDG Eric Holthaus and a Gift of Sight to ADP Carol Gilbert for making donation goals. Currently on the LEBW Board from our district are PID Peter Cerniglia, PDG Rick Daluge and Lion Ron Blawusch. LEBW has competition in the Milwaukee area by a for profit organization. They ask that we not use Blood Center of Wisconsin for blood donations. Also make sure that donor families have a choice, they can ask for the Lions Eye Bank. New building near McFarland.

Restoring Hope Transplant House - no report. PID Peter Cerniglia thanked clubs for their Capital Campaign Donations. Each District was asked to donate $30,000. Our District donated $80,000. Change donation monies for everyday operations now.

CBI - moment of silence for Lion Al Greco. Lion Carmine Greco will be taking over.

Health and Wellness - Lion Lisa Ruth Krueger says improvement is regardless of age and health. She gave some background of her journey from 2 pack a day smoker to ironman competitor. We start by taking small steps to better health.

Committee Reports:

Hearing Conservation - PDG Rick Koch thanked everyone for their donations. To donate make checks payable to WLF and in the memo line “Hearing Project 27D1”.

Children's Vision Screening - Lion Dave Hineline-We have screened vision for 75,000 children statewide and our goal is to screen 100,000 kids. In the past, our District reported screening 8,500 kids, last year it was 11,000 kids. About half the clubs report doing a vision screening. Prevent Blindness has a database of the children screened. Lion Dave will provide an electronic form to send to WLF.

Stuff the Bus - Lions Peter and Denise Zang - this year's date is August 12. Over $36,000 school supplies have been collected in the past couple of years. We have a school supply list on the website. NBC 15 has an interview with DG Jodi scheduled for Friday at 6 a.m. Please submit your information to pr@lions27d1.org.

USA/Canada Forum - PID Mark Hintzmann/Lion Tammy - PID Mark is co-chair of the Forum and will be the chairman of the Forum next year in Columbus. The Forum provides lots of seminars and great speakers. Contact Lion Tammy if you want more information.

Pins - Lion Brian McKay will taking over the pins. 2018 state pin is a butterfly. They are $2.00 each. DG Team will not be bringing them on club visits.

Tail Twister - Lion Sandy Harrison explained what the job of the tail twister is and gave some ideas for making it fun. The raffle winnings of $100 went to Lions Peter and Denise Zang.
