Diabetes Committee Report

Lion Winnie and WLF Director John Dickson attended the Diabetes Focus Group in July. Lion Bob has set up a guest speaker from JDRF to give a talk at the next Focus Group meeting scheduled for October.

Lion Bob sent out a letter to all clubs promoting a free T1D Kid's Day on August 12 and is sponsored by JDRF. The fair will be held at Blackhawk church and is open to all children K-8 with Type 1 Diabetes. There will be games, healthy snacks, T-shirts and other activities for the children; and informational round tables and discussion groups for the parents/guardians.

Lion Becky is currently drafting a letter that will go out to all the district club presidents asking that they form a diabetes committee within their club if they don't already have one. The purpose being that the clubs become active participants in raising Diabetes awareness within each of their communities and the district.

Lions Bob and Becky will be working at the JDRF walk on September 24. This year the walk will be held at the UW Health Hospital at the American Center. Bob and Becky will be working in the collection tent and will bring along hand out materials as well as spread the word on the role that Lions play in raising diabetes awareness.

The committee received a Thank You email from Jennifer Wickman, the executive director of JDRF - Western Wisconsin Division- for the $1000 donation that was made from the 27-D1 Lions. Lion Winnie has made the suggestion that we make up kits with assorted Diabetes materials to hand out to the district's clubs as we visit them.

The first Diabetes committee meeting will be scheduled sometime after the first cabinet meeting.
