District Cabinet Meeting - Sunday, January 22, 2017 - American Legion, Cross Plains

CABINET MEETING MINUTES

Call to order at 11:35 AM (due to a football game that proved to be meaningless).

Pledge 1st VDG Jodi Burmester.

Song & Prayer PDG Neil Winchell, with apologies to Julie Nygaard for the early start.

Lunch 11:40.

Opening comments from DG Eric Holthaus: Sign up for the District convention is available, the convention is 3/10-11 at the Marriot in Middleton. Election changes are yes/no ballots this year and we will have a vote for the convention site this year. State convention is May 4-5 in Lacrosse.

1st VDG Jodi Burmester spoke about Cabinet meetings in August and October for next year starting with the GMT/GLT/Zone Chair Team Meeting at 2PM and the Cabinet Meeting at 3:15 with a 5:00 PM dinner for those who want to stay and a January Cabinet Meeting being held online. Officer training is being revamped to include leadership training and planning for each clubs upcoming year and to help clubs develop leaders. Our clubs are doing a great job of reporting their Centennial reports and projects to IPDG Dick Schwedrsky. 1st VDG Jodi also mentioned that District 27-D1 is lucky to have a Dick, or a Lion Richard leading our MyLCI/MMR training and reporting. (Sorry, Jodi, I had to report that).

2nd VDG John Elverkrog reported that he is enjoying his year and is looking forward to working with everyone again next year.

IPDG Dick Schwedrsky reported that the clubs in the district are at 100% for the MMR reports. The only District in the State that can say that.

The October Cabinet Meetings minutes were approved with a motion by PDG Rob Sherman and a 2nd by PDG Jerry Sherwin.

The January Business Meeting minutes were approved with a motion by PDG Jerry Sherwin and a 2nd by IPDG Dick Schwedrsky.

Cabinet Treasurer Bill Severson reported that the budget is coming along nicely and that the 2nd half State dues must be paid by Feb. 15th for clubs to be able to vote at the District Convention.

Al Johnson reported that he has forms available for the Communicate Like a Leader conference in March, there are 3 spots per district available.

Committee Reports

Adult Vision Screening: 5 screenings have been held and the District is donating $1000 to Prevent Blindness Wisconsin.

Childrens Vision Screening: Clubs should be using the standardized forms to report to Dave Hineline on screenings, there will be a training session at the District convention on Friday afternoon from 3 to 5PM.

Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin: The Eye Bank is looking at a new building that would hold a call center as the current call center is located in Missouri.

Lioness Affiliate ADP: Reported that a Helen Keller impersonator will be one of the programs at the District convention sponsored by the Lioness.

CBI: Al Greco thanked clubs for their donations.

Restoring Hope House: PDG Bob Faliveno reported that the Hope House is very busy and there is a capitol campaign going and the district voted to use the $75000 for expansion to be used in 2018 rather than 2017 because of the construction currently going on in Middleton that would disrupt patient care. Motion by PDG Mike Tiber 2nd by John Dixon, motion passed.

LCIF: Laurie Holthaus reported that there is a new position on each club's Board of LCIF club coordinator. Donations are up over $3500 for the District.

Diabetes: PDG Bob Faliveno attended a Diabetes Focus group meeting in October and that the Diabetes committee would like a inclusion at the State Convention in May. Diabetes will be added as a 5th Centennial award starting in July of 2017.

GLT: Al Johnson reported that there will be a Officers training table at the District convention. Changes are being made at the International level and our Lions officers need to be ready.

GMT: Jodi Burmester reported that a raise in the application fee to $35 as of July 1st, 2017.

Information Technology: Scott Grover thanks Cabinet members for getting their reports in.

Hearing: PDG Richard Koch reported that 10 people have received hearing aids since the last Cabinet meeting.

Youth Exchange: Ben August reported that 6 applicants have applied for Youth Exchange and that applicants are coming in from other countries for kids to come to our camp.

Leader Dog: No report.

Research and Long Range Planning: No report.

WLF: PDG Neil Winchell reported on the Camp Raffle and would like clubs to participate or sponsor a camper for $700. John Dickson reported on the eye glass collection and there will be a eye glass reading and collection at the District Convention.

Centennial Celebration: DG Eric reported on the Legacy Projects and that the District is doing well on the projects.

Next Cabinet Meeting: Friday March 10th, 2017 at Middleton Marriot, 5:30PM Cabinet Meeting Call to Order.
