District Meeting - Sunday, January 17, 2016 - Cross Plains American Legion Building, Cross Plains, WI

The District 27-D1 Cabinet Meeting was called to order by District Governor Dick Schwedrsky at 11:50 AM.

1st Vice District Governor Eric Holthaus led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Lion Julie Nygaard led everyone in song and prayer.

Break for Lunch

DG Dick Schwedrsky shared some opening comments. 41 club visited to date, each club is unique in how they approach service. COG is still working on the format of the state newspaper. The current proposal is for 4 printed and 6 online issues for next year, but final decision has not been made yet.

1st VDG Eric Holthaus will be contacting Lions/Cabinet members people to fill cabinet positions for next year. Written report online.

2nd VDG Jodi Burmester gave an invitation to attend the Charter Night for the new Winner's Circle Special Olympians Lions Club on February 2, 2016 at the Coliseum Bar in Madison. 21 new Lions will be inducted. Cost is $23 for dinner and reservations are due by 1/26/16. Clubs are asked to consider sponsoring a member as they are on a limited income. Written report online.

Motion was made by PDG Bob Faliveno, seconded by PDG Jerry Sherwin to approve the minutes from the October 2015 cabinet meeting. Motion carried.

Motion was made by PDG Neil Winchell, seconded by PDG Rob Sherman to approve the agenda. Motion carried.

Advanced Lions Leadership Institute: ZC Mike Keller attended, shared his experiences and highly recommended ALLI to others.

Faculty Development Institute: 2nd VDG Jodi Burmester attended. Session focused on helping people do a better job of training.

Communicate Like a Leader information posted online. District attendees are Lion Becky Faliveno, Mt Horeb Lions, Lion Dean Piehl, Lake Wisconsin Lions and Lion Lisa Beers, Wisconsin Dells. There are still openings if anyone would like to attend.

Emerging Lions Institute will be held in Denver, CO in March. Anyone interested, contact DG Dick.

PDG Neil Winchell, District Story Teller, entertained with a tall tale.

Lions State Bowling will be hosted in District 27-D1 in 2018. No applications have been received from D1 clubs. The deadline has been extended to January 31, 2016 but if no one applies State Bowling 2018 will likely go to District E1.

1st VDG Eric reported that the District will be re-zoning in to 6 regions with 2 zones each. DG Dick will contact LCI to determine the correct procedure to re-zone.

District Convention will be March 4-5. 2016 at Marriott, Middleton. Online sign-up is open. There will be 3 Keynote presentations, recognition of our members and clubs with Lions/Lioness of the Year and Lions/Lioness Club of the Year. Vision Screening Training, MyLCI training and 6 seminars will be offered. PID Mike Molinda will be the visiting ID. Ad are due by 2/9/16, room reservations deadline is 2/17/16 and meal registrations deadline is 2/20/16. Clubs are asked to donate a $25 raffle prize/contact PDG Randy Harrison. 2018 District Convention will be at Chula Vista, Wisconsin Dells. Ballot will include DG, 1st VDG, 2nd VDG, WLF Director and Bowling.

Adult Vision Screening: Written report online. Lion Doc Esser shared several of the screenings that have taken place since the last cabinet meeting.

Children's Vision Screening: Lion Dave Hineline reported that through the LCIF grant there are 31 new Vison Screening Cameras in the state. 3 in D1 at Verona, Lake Wisconsin and a District camera. Camera has been placed in Lancaster, contact Lee and Ruth Rupnow to use. 2600 children screened this year, 7% referrals - new form for referrals coming. There have been trainings at Deforest and Fitchburg, upcoming sessions in Beloit and District Convention. Insurance is available for club owned cameras, contact information will be sent to clubs.

Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin. New director, Darice Langham, is available for club programs. Written report online.

Lioness Affiliate ADP Greg Clark introduced ADVP Carol Gilbert and partner in service, Lioness Larry Gilbert, first male inducted into the Beloit Lioness Club. Lioness Carol will be serving as ADP for 2016-2017. District Lioness memberships is currently at 34 members. Lioness dues structure will change in July.

PDG John Jenson reported that the Constitution, Policy and By-Laws Committee has nothing further since the major rewrite of the Policy Manual was approved at the August Cabinet meeting.

PDG John Jenson noted that the 2016 State Convention will be held at the Paper Valley Hotel, Appleton, May 19-21, 2016, theme is "Unlock the Magic of Lionism." Visiting Dignitary will be the 2nd International Lions Vice President. Room reservations-$99 + tax, information and registration forms in the February Wisconsin Lion.

2016 International Convention is in Japan, June 24-28, 2016.

Cultural and Community Activities - No Report.

Lion Winnie Jentz reported that the Diabetes Focus Group met today, PDG Bob Faliveno has joined the committee and they are getting the group back on track.

GLT - Lion Al Johnson announced the dates for officer training: April 18 in Waunakee, April 19 in Dodgeville and April 21 in Albany. Zone Chair training will be early May, dates to be announced. - Written report online.

Information Technology - Lion Scott Grover advised clubs that if they would like to have the district news column on their club website to contact him.

PDG Richard Koch asked that donations should be sent directly to the WLF Hearing Program with 27D1 Hearing in the memo line. Suggested donation is $4 per member. 5 applications have been approved since October - Written report online.

Reading Action Program - No report.

Leader Dog - Written report and trip information online. Lion Bill Killian asked Zone Chairs to asked their clubs for donations to the Kennel Project. Only 3 District clubs have donated to date.

Leos - No report.

Peace Poster - This year's District and State winner is from Evansville. Next year's theme is "Share Peace".

Youth Exchange - Lion Ben August said only 2 applications for scholarships have been received. Lion Ben reported that the YE Committee is considering changing the scholarship application based on LCI specifications as they are currently in conflict. Written report online.

PDG Jerry Sherwin will order the 2016 pins but questions if there is enough interest to continue with pins.

Research & Long Range Planning - Nothing beyond re-zoning.

USA/Canada Leadership Forum - Written report online.

WLF Directors John Dickson & Neil Winchell reported on the 60th Lions Camp Anniversary celebration later this year. There will be a chicken BBQ type event and a motorcycle ride with 100+ riders from each district. More information and dates will follow. Camp will cost about $700 next year-clubs asked to consider increasing their donation. WLF placemats are available for $18/500 - Written report online.

District Bowling will be hosted by Oregon-Brooklyn at Oregon Lanes on January 30 & 31, 2016. 15 clubs signed up so far. Dodgeville will be on the ballot for 2017.

State Bowling - February 27 - April 24, 2016. Written report online.

State Curling Bonspiel - January 15-17, 2016. No Report.

Environmental - PDG Rob Sherman said that photos are needed for the Environmental Photo Contest by the end of January. Only 1 potential photo to date.

PR & Lions Information - Lion Joyce Koch and 1st VDG Eric are working on a presentation for the District Convention. Written report online.

Wisconsin Missions - Erling Isley reported that 2 missions are planned for Feb and Mar to Nicaragua and El Salvador. Looking at possible future missions to Costa Rica, Honduras and Panama - Written report online.

DG Dick asked that all cabinet members complete the member's records form which were emailed to everyone in December.
