District Meeting - Sunday, October 11, 2015 - Lions House, Albany

CABINET MEETING MINUTES

The District 27-D1 Cabinet Meeting was called to order by District Governor Dick Schwedrsky at 11:50 AM.

Moment of Silence in memory of PDG Daryl Porter, Beloit Noon Lions.

1st Vice District Governor Eric Holthaus led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Lion Julie Nygaard led everyone in song and prayer.

Moment of Silence in memory of Lion Bob Mathre, President of West Grant Lions.

Break for Lunch

1st VDG Eric Holthaus spoke briefly about his visit to Leader Dog, USA Canada Forum and Combat Blindness presentation for World Vision Day. Written report online.

2nd VDG Jodi Burmester -Written report online.

Motion was made by PID Phil Ingwell, seconded by PDG Neil Winchell to approve the minutes from the August 2015 cabinet meeting. Motion carried.

Motion was made by PDG Richard Koch, seconded by PDG Bob Faliveno to approve the agenda. Motion carried.

Advanced Lions Leadership Institute: District will have one attendee, ZC Mike Keller.

Faculty Development Institute: District will have one attendee, 2nd VDG Jodi Burmester.

Communicate Like a Leader information posted online. Two attendees signed up to date: Lion Becky Faliveno and Lion Dean Piehl. Only 30 spots available (3 per District). Anyone interested should get their application to DG Dick by December 31, 2015.

Stuff the Bus update from 2nd VDG Jodi Burmester is posted online. District D1 was the MD27 leader with 30 clubs participating this year.

PDG Neil Winchell, District Story Teller, entertained with two humorous stories.

DG Dick presented Lion Ben August with the Environment Photo Contest Award from LCI in the Special Theme Category for 2014-15.

Lions State Bowling will be hosted in District 27-D1 in 2018. Applications to host have been sent to all club presidents and secretaries. Applications are due no later than December 15, 2015. 2016 State Bowling Entry Forms will be distributed at the Regional Zone meetings.

Zone reports from several zones are posted online. DG Dick congratulated ZC Mike Keller for getting all the clubs in his zone involved in Vision Screening at the Columbia County Fair.

Children's Vision Screening: 30 new screeners trained at the DeForest training session. Written report online.

Alert Chair Lion Ed Proctor asked that any club interested in the Alert program contact him for information.

Lion Julie Nygaard, LEBW, reported the tissue cutting program has started at the eye bank. Written report online.

LCIF - Lion Lori Holthaus - Written report online. DG Dick reported that there are funds on deposit with LCIF that are available for Melvin Jones Fellowships, please consider using them.

PID Pete Cerniglia reported that Restoring Hose House is in the 3rd year of the capital campaign. 27D1 continues to lead in monetary support. See full report online.

PDG John Jenson reported that the updated Policy Manual is posted on the District website.

PDG John Jenson noted that the 2016 State Convention will be held at the Paper Valley Inn, Appleton, May 19-21, 2016. 2016 International Convention is in Japan, June 24-28, 2016. DG Dick has appointed the District Executive Convention Committee, PDG John Jenson, PDG Rick Daluge and Lion Deb Freeman. District Convention is March 4-5, 2016.

Candidate Search Committee: Nomination papers for District offices are due by December 31, 2015.

Cultural and Community Activities - No Report

Lion Mary Stanek, Chair of the District Diabetes Focus Group, needs people for the committee. Ask your clubs for volunteers. WLF Director John Dickson said the state diabetes focus group also needs 1 or 2 people form D1.

GLT - Lion Al Johnson - Written report online.

GMT - Lion Tammy Rockenbach - Written report online. DG Dick reported that the UW-Platteville Club has only 5 members and will fold if they do not get 12 members by January. Madison Evening has only 7 members and may not survive. Lion members are up 15 and Lioness members are down 22 as of October 1st.

Information Technology - Written report online. Lion Scott Grover asked that clubs send their newsletters to him and they will be posted to better share club's activities.

PDG Richard Koch asked that donations should be sent directly to the WLF Hearing Program with 27D1 Hearing in the memo line. Suggested donation is $4 per member. Written report online.

Reading Action Program - No report

Leader Dog - Written report online. 13.5 of the 14.5 million needed for the new kennel has been raised.

Leos - DG Dick said there is the possibility of having 3-4 additional Leo Clubs in the next year. With that in mind, there will be Leo co-chairs with one located in the east and one in the western part of the District.

Peace Poster - Peace Posters must be in DG Dick's hands by November 15, 2015.

Youth Exchange - Lion Ben August asked that donations to Youth Exchange be received by December 15th scholarship deadline. Written report online.

PDG Jerry Sherwin reported that the Courthouse Pin series has 3 counties, Grant, Green & Iowa, and needs pictures of the remaining Courthouses.

1st VDG Eric reported that Research & Long Range Planning will be looking at re-zoning the District in to possibly 6 regions with 2 zones each.

USA/Canada Leadership Forum will be in Omaha, NE in 2016.

WLF Directors John Dickson & Neil Winchell promoted the annual Deer Hide collection to support the Lions Camp. Camp now costs $705 per camper per week. District clubs received 3 new cameras through the grant program.

District Bowling will be hosted by Oregon-Brooklyn at Oregon Lanes on January 30 & 31, 3016. DG Dick requested that clubs in the western part of the District consider running for District Bowling.

PR & Lions Information - “Creating a Club Facebook Page” will be presented at the Regional Zone meetings. Written report online

Centennial Celebration - DG Dick said that 45 District Clubs received a Centennial Service Award for 2014-2015 and he would like to see all 57 clubs earn the award for 2015-2016. Written report online.

Edgerton Lions have their 75th Anniversary on November 14, 2015.
