Vision Committee Report - Sunday, March 13, 2026

Cabinet Members,

We have reached convention time for 2026. On Friday March 13th, we are having a vision screening training again to certify new Lions for vision screening along with re-certification of existing vision screeners.

In 27D1, we are currently at 11,190 students screened, 1,126 referred, for 10.06% rate. We are approximately 3,740 behind our peak of 2018-19. There are still more clubs that have scheduled vision screenings this spring and we have clubs reporting now that have not reported for some time.

This last year has brought up some questions that we will be addressing in this training-

*Who needs to be certified for vision screening?

*How do we get Shopko vouchers?

*Are we getting too high of a rate of referrals from our cameras?

*How can we get refresher online training from Plusoptix and when is it available?

*What is the new STELLEST lenses for treating Myopia?

As a reminder, I have given notice that I am stepping down from the D1 Vision Co-chairmanship on June 30th, we are still looking for someone to step forward to take on this role. I have found that I have a great respect for Lions who are serving our communities and understand the rewards that come with that service. Hearing from families that have received help and their appreciation for our work is what has kept me committed to service.

We are reaching new challenges in vision screening with the time kids spend on laptops and gaming. The time using their near vision is changing how their eyes are developing. They are not getting out side as much anymore and not developing their distant vision as they need. This is leading to needing new ways to treat Myopia in the 6-12 year old kids. These eye problems are sometimes preventable, but these changes are long lasting and can lead to losing their sight.

Thank you to everyone who participates in the Lions Vision Screening program and for your service and teamwork over the years.

Respectfully submitted,
Lion Milo Parker
