District Cabinet Meeting - Sunday, January 30, 2021
Global Service Team Report

Stuff the Bus - Lion Bruce Voight shared that the final numbers for STB were $67,661 in school supplies and $16,181 in cash donations for a total of $83,842. Twenty-three clubs reported, there were five clubs who indicated they were participating but did not submit any results, despite reminders.  Lion Bruce never heard if they actually did a STB or not. Still, a very nice bounce back from last year. Bruce, thank you for heading this up.

Service Project of the Year Award - Awards & Recognition Chair, Lion Andy Grosvold, has passed along that as of Saturday, January 22nd he has received one nomination for Lion of the Year and one nomination for Service Project of the Year. He has had one other club contact him that promises to send a Service Project in before the February 5th deadline.

Virtual MD27 GST meeting in January - MD27 GST meetings are scheduled virtually for the 2nd Thursday of each month thru May 2022. Lion Greg, MD27 GST Coordinator, passes on information to us and asks us to share what is going on in our district. This month Lion Greg did share that LCI is switching things up this year as they are asking the District GAT to brainstorm with the incoming DG to help them set up their goals. They would like this be done by early February. We are not sure why they are moving it up so much.

We also discussed the Service Project of the Year nominations and also the Lion of the Year nominations. It sounds like we are not the only district that has these coming in very slowly this year.

MyLion - Through the first 6 months of the year our District has had 56% of our clubs reporting. Through December 1,074 service activities have been reported with nearly 165,916 people served.

NexTrex Plastic Film Recycling Program - Environmental Chair Bill Baker and myself have been receiving emails from clubs that either have decided not to participate at this time, are looking to gather additional information before moving forward or have signed up and the program has either started or a start date has been set. The New Glarus Lions will begin March 1st, the Lake Wisconsin Lions will begin February 1st and the Pardeeville, DeForest, McFarland and Sun Prairie Lions began January 1st . For Pardeeville, it is their 2nd six-month program and they emailed to say they should have their bench before the January 30 th Cabinet meeting. Kudo's to them on their success and continuing this service project.

The Potosi/Tennyson Lions, Stoughton Lions and Milton Lions are finalizing their plans and communicating with their local grocery stores. I have talked to both the Lancaster and Platteville Piggly Wiggly's as the managers confirmed that their stores stopped collecting plastic during the Pandemic. They will verify with their warehouse to make sure it is okay to work with the Lions and start sending plastic back to them. These are the two locations that Potosi/Tennyson Lions will need to use for recycling. We are definitely learning more information as the programs begin to rollout.
