Wisconsin Lions Missions January 2018 Report

About 50 Wisconsin Lions attended the winter missions meeting in Rosholt on January 6th.

The 1st mission of 2018 will be in Chinandega, Nicaragua. The Department, or State of Chinandega has a population of about 400,000 people and is our first mission to this area. 30 Wisconsin Lions will be involved and plan to dispense about 3500 pair of glasses. Mission dates are February 19th-24th.

A second mission will be the following week in Usulut'an, El Salvador. 34 Wisconsin Lions will be working with Lions and Lioness Clubs from that community. This is a new location in El Salvador. The mission will take place on a military base with the military providing transportation and security as they have in previous missions in that country.

Mexico is still off limits for eye glass missions. Because of the difficulty getting school, medical and other items into the country nothing will go there this year. They are still requesting fire trucks and ambulances however.

Contacts have been made for missions in Cuba and Belize but little progress has been made to date.

The Emergency Response effort raised more than $20,000.00 for Hurricane relief in Texas. We need to sign up more volunteers for this program. At the present time there are about 60 Lions on the list and the hope is for 200. That would assure getting 10 to 14 people on short notice if the need arises. The summer annual meeting will be in Marshfield, date to be determined.

Respectfully submitted:
