District Meeting - Friday, March 4, 2016 - Marriott Madison West, Middleton, WI

The District 27-D1 Cabinet Meeting was called to order by District Governor Dick Schwedrsky at 5:30PM.

1st Vice District Governor Eric Holthaus led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Lion Julie Nygaard led everyone in song and prayer.

Break for Dinner

DG Dick Schwedrsky shared some opening comments and introduced International Guest, PID Mike Molenda.

1st VDG Eric Holthaus let everyone know about the Candidates Hospitality Room on the 10th floor after the Lion County Fair social.

Motion was made by PDG Jerry Sherwin, seconded by PID Phil Ingwell to approve the minutes from the January 2016 cabinet meeting. Motion carried.

The Financial Reports are being moved to the Business Meeting on Saturday, March 5, 2016.

The Convention Social 'Lions County Fair' will be in the Mendota-Geneva Room.

PDG Neil Winchell, District Story Teller, entertained with a tall tale.

Adult Vision Screening (Dick Cashwell/Todd Vieau) - No Report

Children's Vison Screening (Dave Hineline) - The 4th Vision Screening Training of the year was held today with 27 people attending. An online reporting system for vision screening results is being developed. Written Report Online

Alert (Ed Proctor) - A survey will be going to all clubs to learn how clubs would like to participate.

Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin (Ronald Blawusch) - No Report

Lioness Affiliate ADP Greg Clark - Business meeting tomorrow.

CBI (Al Greco) - No Report

LCIF (Laurie Holthaus) No Report

Restoring Hope House (PID Peter Cerniglia) - Lioness sponsored speaker at Saturday opening session. District D1 is number one in donations to Restoring Hope Capital Campaign. 100% of the District Lioness Clubs have donated and 70% of District Lions Clubs have donated to the campaign.

Constitution, By-Laws, Policy (PDG John Jenson) - No Report

Conventions, International, State (PDG John Jenson) - No Report

Cultural & Community Activities (2nd VDG Jodi Burmester) - No Report

Diabetes (Winnie Jentz) - Committee met today. PDG Bob Faliveno is co-chair. Waunakee Lions are planning on participating in Diabetes Awareness by constructing a float for parades. Cost will be about $1100. PDG Bob Faliveno moved that the District approve $750 towards Waunakee's cost of the Diabetes Awareness float. 2nd by WLF Director John Dickson and approved unanimously. Float should be available for other parades. 1st VDG Eric Holthaus suggested that the float could be entered in the 2017 International Parade in Chicago.

GLT (Al Johnson) - Officer training is set for April, get the registration forms completed and returned at least one week prior to training. 2 District members attended Communicate Like a Leader. Zone Chair training will be the first week of May.

GMT (Tammy Rockenbach) - Membership is a +50 members for the year. Working on a new service project 'Clean the House', a long term on-going project for Restoring Hope Transplant House.

Information Technology (Scott Grover) - Thanks to those who sent in reports.

Hearing (PDG Richard Koch) - Thanked all the clubs who collected hearing aids, resulting in $1500 to the District Hearing Fund.

Reading Action Program (Jim Hickey) - No Report

Leader Dog (Bill Killian) - No Report

Leo (Judy Hatz) - Sun Prairie Lions started a new Leos Clubs this year bringing total to 15.

Peace Poster (PDG Walt Althaus) Next year's theme - SHARE PEACE - Results of this year's contest: 1st-Evansville, 2nd-McFarland, 3rd-Albany, 4th-Mazomanie with Evansville winning state. 2016-2017 Peace Poster kits are now available to be ordered.

Youth Exchange (Ben August) - District is currently hosting 3 students who are returning this year as counselors. 3 scholarships are being awarded this year. Written Report Online

Closing Comments from DG Dick - 315 people registered for the convention, 46 of 58 Lions Clubs, 10 of 12 Lioness Clubs and 4 of 15 Leos Clubs are represented.
