District Meeting - Sunday, August 3, 2014 - Dodger Bowl, Dodgeville, WI

CABINET MEETING MINUTES

Meeting was called to order by Lion District Governor Randy Harrison at 12:00 Noon.

1st Vice District Governor Dick Schwedrsky led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Lion Steve Mueller led us in song and prayer.

DG Randy introduced the guests which included DG Randy's wife Lion Sandy, various past DG's, Lion ID Karla Harris and her husband Lion Clarence.

DG Randy along with ID Karla, PID Phil and Lion Jodi spoke briefly about their trip to Toronto.

Broke for lunch.

Cabinet meeting began promptly at 1:00 pm. with opening comments from DG Randy.

DG Randy read a letter from IPDG Bob Faliveno who was unable to attend today.

1st VDG Dick spoke briefly.

2nd VDG Eric spoke briefly about Stuff the Bus. August 9th is the suggested date to hold event.

ID Karla Harris installed the cabinet and presented many members with “keys” for success.

Motion made by Lion Rob, second by Lion Phil to approve the minutes from the May cabinet meeting. Motion carried.

Motion made by Lion Dale, second by Lion Jerry to approve the agenda. Motion carried.

Lion Bill gave us a re-cap of the financial statements. District financials are available on line or Bill can e-mail them to you. They are also available on the table up front.

Lion Bill presented the budget. Motion was made by Lion Dale, seconded by Lion Jodi to approve the budget. Motion carried.

Motion was made by Lion Dale, second by Lion Walt to approve the deposit of district funds. Motion carried.

Lion Jerry moved, Lion Glenn seconded approval of audit. Motion carried.

PDG Neil told us a couple of “Tall Tales” to everyone delight.

Adult vision screening: no report.

Children's Vision Screening: Lion Dave reports 25 clubs participated and served over 5000 kids.

There will be vision screening training on August 23rd in Cuba City beginning at 10:00 at the American Legion.

Alert: Lion Ed spoke about the Alert program and how he is willing to attend club meetings to try and get this program going.

Lions Eye Bank: Lion Phil reported about the recent annual meeting held by the Eye Bank.

Constitution and By-laws: Lion Phil motioned to delete item 2, seconded by Lion Arlen. Motion passed. Rest of the by-laws have been updated.

CBI: no report.

Leo Club: no report.

LCIF: Lion Laurie reported 34 clubs donated for a total of $25,000.

Restoring Hope House: DG Randy reported over $500,000 has been raised. Received the ball used for the first pitch at the recent Mallards game.

Convention: PDG John reported District convention will again be in Middleton on March 13 and 14, 2015 at the Marriott.

Cultural and Community Activities: no report.

Diabetes: no report.

GLT: Lion Al is looking for 2 ZC.

GMT: Lion Tammy filled us in on a couple of new awards for 2014-15. Grass Roots Lion of Year and Club of the Year. Information is up front on the table about these new awards. She also reminded everyone of the Ask 1 program.

Information Technology: Lion Scott reminded all to get him any information you would like put on district website.

Leader Dog: Lion Bill reports that the kennels are being re-modeled at a cost of $14,500,000. They are asking Lions to donate $3,000,000 over the next 3 years. This is separate from the donations clubs currently make.

Peace Poster: Lion Walt reminds us that the deadline for poster submission is November 1, 2014. Theme this year is “Peace, Love and Understanding”.

Youth Exchange: Lion Ben reported on the past years exchange. Hosted 8 youths and had 4 outgoing youths. Marshall Lions hosted a picnic which was well received by all.

Pins: Lion Jerry asked for a motion to have 200 pins made. Motion by Lion Eric, second by Lion Neil. Motion passed. Second motion was made to us the money raised from selling older pins be used to help keep the cost down on new pins. Motion was made by Lion Walt, second by Lion Rob. Motion carried.

WLF: Lion John and PDG Neil reported that the cost of camp has gone up to $650/camper.

Midwest Health Fair: Lion Dale reports the Health Fair will be in Mt. Horeb on September 6. Currently has 44 vendors and 14 Lions tables. Motion was made by Lion John, second by Lion Glenn to move $900 from the Diabetes fund to the Health Fair for advertising. Motion passed.

Bowling: Lion Bruce reported as to both the district and state Lions bowling events. State bowling is from Feb. 21 to April 19, 2015 in Burlington. Hosted by the East Troy and Burlington Lions.

Curling Bonspiel: Lion Traci reports the event is in Portage, hosted by Pardeeville Lions on January 9 - 11, 2015.

Hearing Aid Program: Lion Eric gave us a report on the hearing aid program and asked for a motion to increase the budget amount by $3,000. Motion was seconded by Lion John Jensen. Motion carried.

Environmental: no report.

ID Karla Harris gave us a very energized and informative talk on “Making Clubs Fun” and how to thank Lions for all of the hard work and good deeds that they perform every day. ID Karla gave us many great ideas that we can all take back to our clubs to make being a Lion for fun for all our members.

50/50 raffle was held.
